How to Apply
We have partnered with Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) to provide sixteen (16) subsidized (rental assisted) apartments to households with incomes at/under 30-60% AMI. For more information visit CHA's website to apply.
Online and paper applications to the waiting list will be made available starting Thursday, October 17, 2024.
All applications for our non-rental assisted apartments will be entered onto a waiting list, which will be ordered chronologically based on time-stamped application submission of a fully completed application.
There is an Artist Preference for nineteen (19) of our non-rental assisted apartments and will require additional screening if selected from the waiting list. For more information click on “Artist Preference Information” below.
Since our community is still under construction, we are not conducting any tours at the moment, but will offer an opportunity to view renderings, floorplans, and interior finishes. We will provide updates on tours on our website.
Canvas at Leland Plaza will be opening Winter 2024.

All applicants must be determined eligible in accordance with the Department of HUD regulations and must meet the family size requirements for a designated bedroom size (maximum of 2 persons per bedroom; minimum of 1 person per bedroom preference) as well as maximum income of all family members (please see above for limits). Your application must also be fully completed to be eligible for a waitlist placement.
The maximum income limits are based on the amount of people in your household. Our management team will determine what program you qualify in.

The minimum income standard (non-subsidized homes) is based on gross monthly household income which is at least 2.5x the monthly rent. Minimum income limits do not apply if household receives mobile housing assistance (VASH, Section 8, MRVP, etc.).
If you have been selected from the waitlist to complete a move in application, there is a $55 application fee required at submission.
Glossary:
AMI - Area Median Income - is the midpoint income for a particular region, considering all incomes of households in that region. It is often used as a benchmark to determine eligibility for affordable housing programs.
ARTIST PREFERENCE- Developments using low-income housing tax credits are allowed to provide leasing preference for those involved in artistic or literary activities. Click on “Artist Preference Information” below for more information.
LIHTC - Low Income Housing Tax Credit - a program in the United States that encourages the development of affordable rental housing for individuals and families with earning 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) or less.
