Artist Preference

The Process

Artist Preference

Determining Eligibility for our nineteen (19) Artist Preferred Units is a TWO STEP ELIGIBILITY PROCESS:
1. You will apply onto our waiting list and self declare your Artist status by selecting "Artist" for the question that asks,"Do any of these preferences apply to you?"
2. If you are selected from the waiting list, we will send you an email or letter notification of "Notice to Move Forward", allowing you 5 business days to respond.
3. If you respond within the 5 business day response period, we will send you an full online "Move In" application to complete along with a list of supporting documents you must complete before your scheduled appointment to select an apartment.
4. Once you have completed the full application process and provided all qualifying documents, and we've determined program eligibility on one of our affordable units, we will schedule an appointment for you to conduct an "Artist Selection Interview."
5. You will be required to submit all your art pieces online in advance of the interview and you will meet with an Artist Selection Committee (via Zoom) that will determine your eligibility.
6. After the interview our management team will contact you with the results and provide next steps.

How We Determine Artist Eligibility

For this committee, an Artist is a person who is committed to and participates in the arts and not simply as a hobby. This does not mean that the art the artist creates generates any or all of the artist’s source of income. Artist shall be defined as:

  • A person who works in or is skilled in any of the fine arts, including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, book art, mixed media, and printmaking.
  • A person who creates imaginative works of aesthetic value, including but not limited to film, video, digital media works, literature, costume design, photography, architecture, and music composition.
  • A person who creates functional art, including but not limited to jewelry, rugs, decorative screens and grates, furniture, pottery, toys, and quilts.
  • A performer includes but is not limited to singers, musicians, dancers, actors, and performance artists.
  • In all culturally significant practices, including a designer, technician, tattoo artist, hairdresser, chef/culinary artist, craftsperson, teacher, or administrator who is dedicated to using their expertise within the community to support, promote, present, teach, and propagate their art form through events, activities, performances, and classes
